"As a relative beginner guitarist, I was looking for a reasonably priced electric guitar. I wasn’t entirely sure the hobby would stick, but I wanted something that would inspire me to keep picking it up and practising. I got chatting with Anthony, and he offered to take on the challenge of building me a guitar using spare parts he had lying around. After meeting up and seeing some of his previous builds, I jumped at the chance. Throughout the build process, Anthony kept me fully involved, providing regular and extremely enthusiastic updates. He even invited me over to wind one of my own pickups, which was an amazing experience. The end result is truly something special. From spare parts and wood reclaimed from an old bed, he created a guitar that is both beautiful and incredibly playable. Six months on, the hobby has well and truly stuck—I pick it up every single day—and the guitar has a lot to do with that. As a lovely surprise, he even included a pen made from the same wood as the guitar. I cannot recommend Anthony highly enough. Not only will you receive a stunning guitar made with care and passion, but it will also be professionally set up and an absolute dream to play."
I completed Paul's guitar build in May 2025.
Just to be upfront, Paul is a friend. As a beginner guitarist, he did not want to set too high a budget. We decided that cost would match that of a decent used guitar and agreed to charge only for materials. I did also get the go-ahead to up-cycle some hardware from older guitars I had here. I sourced the wood (a very solid pine) for the body of the guitar from some old bunk beds! A nice figured top, hand wound pick ups, decent pots/switch and re-finish and a re-fret of a Chinese/amazon neck, all made for a great guitar. All it needs is a retro-fit of better machine heads and it will compete with most guitars hanging on the wall of any music shop. Paul asked that I make it clear that I have a faster 5k time than him.
